Article rewriter: a new version of your own text, in the tone you ask for.
Paste up to 1,500 words and, if you like, describe the tone you want, such as plainer, more formal or warmer. You get a rewritten version to compare against the original, fact by fact, before you use it.

Runs on our server. Your text is sent to Anthropic's Claude to write the result. We count runs and never save what you enter; an identical request may be answered from memory for up to five minutes.
What you can do with it
- Make a dense technical section readable for a general audience
- Bring an old post in line with the voice of the rest of your site
- Turn a formal document into something that reads like a person wrote it
- Tighten a draft that says the right things at twice the length
How it works, step by step
- 1
Decide what the rewrite is for
Name the change in a few words: plainer, shorter, more formal, warmer, for beginners. A rewrite with no goal moves words around without improving anything. The goal is also what you judge the result against.
- 2
Mark what must not change
Before rewriting, highlight the facts: numbers, names, dates, prices, quotes, conditions and caveats. These are the parts a rewrite most often damages, by rounding, generalizing or dropping them.
- 3
Rewrite one section at a time
Work in sections of a few paragraphs. Shorter passages are easier to compare with the original, and a mistake in one section does not spread through the whole piece.
- 4
Compare side by side
Put the original and the rewrite next to each other and check every fact you marked. Then read the rewrite on its own for flow. A version that reads well but has lost a caveat is worse than the original.
- 5
Finish with a proofread
Run the final text through a grammar check and a word count if the piece has a length brief. Then read it aloud once. Your ear catches the sentences that still sound like someone else.
Rewriting your own work is editing
There are good reasons to rewrite a piece: it was written for experts and now needs to reach beginners, it came from three different writers and sounds like it, it was a first draft that never got a second pass. Changing voice and clarity while keeping the substance is what editors do, and a tool can speed up the first pass.
What a rewrite should never change is what the text says. The claims, the numbers, the conditions, the names and the caveats are the content. The wording is the packaging.
Spinning is something else
“Spinning” means taking someone else’s article and rewording it until it looks new. It is not editing, and it does not work the way people hope. The result carries no information the original did not have, so it offers readers nothing new and a search engine no reason to rank it. Google’s spam policies describe this kind of page directly: content copied from elsewhere and only lightly modified, including with automated rewording, and content produced at scale mainly to rank rather than to help people. Beyond search, it can also breach the original author’s copyright.
If you want to write about a topic someone else has covered well, read their piece, then write your own with your experience, your examples and your conclusions, and link to theirs where it helped.
Check the facts after every rewrite
Language models are good at fluent text and less reliable about keeping every detail. The common failures are small and easy to miss:
- A precise number becomes a rounded one, or disappears.
- “In most cases” becomes “always”.
- A condition such as “if you are VAT registered” gets dropped.
- A sentence gains a claim that sounds right but was not in the original.
The fix is a side-by-side read. Mark the facts in the original before you start and tick each one off in the rewrite. It takes a few minutes and it is the difference between an edited piece and a changed one.
Finish by hand
When the facts check out, polish the text as you would any draft. The grammar checker catches spelling and punctuation slips, and the word counter shows length and sentence length if you are writing to a brief. Then read it once in your own voice and change anything you would not say.
What the rewriter does
It sends your text, up to 1,500 words, and your optional tone to Claude Haiku, a fast Anthropic model, and returns a rewritten version. It does not check facts, sources or originality, and it cannot tell whether you have the right to rewrite the text. Those checks stay with you.
AltoRank plans and drafts SEO content for a site every week, and a person approves each piece before it publishes.
Frequently asked questions
Is rewriting an article allowed?
Rewriting your own text, or text you have the rights to, is ordinary editing: changing tone, clarifying, shortening, adapting for a new audience. Rewriting someone else's article so it looks original is a different thing. It can breach their copyright, and it does not give readers anything the source did not.
Will a rewritten article rank in Google?
Rewording alone adds nothing. Google's spam policies cover content copied from other sites and lightly modified, for example by swapping synonyms or using automated rewording, and content produced at scale mainly to rank rather than to help people. A rewrite ranks on the same terms as any page: whether it is the most useful answer to the query.
Can the rewriter change the facts?
It can. A language model rewriting text may round a number, soften a claim, drop a qualifier or fill a gap with something plausible that you did not write. That is why the method above has you mark the facts first and check them after. Treat the output as a draft, not a finished piece.
What can I type in the tone field?
A short description of how the text should sound, up to 40 characters: 'plainer', 'more formal', 'warmer', 'for beginners', 'shorter sentences'. It is optional, but the result is more useful when you say what you want changed.
Is there a length limit?
Up to 1,500 words per run. For longer pieces, rewrite section by section, which also makes the comparison with the original easier.
What happens to the text I paste?
It goes to our server and to Anthropic's Claude, a fast model, which writes the new version. We count how many times the tool runs each day and never save what you enter; an identical request may be answered from memory for up to five minutes. There is a daily usage limit so the tool can stay free without a signup.
