Twelve AltoRank alternatives, and when to pick one
The short answer: if you want software to publish under your name without you reading it first, AltoRank is the wrong tool and several of the twelve below are the right one. If that is exactly the thing that worries you, keep reading. This page is written by us, which you should weigh accordingly — so every competitor claim links to a head-to-head that names its source and the date it was read.

When AltoRank is the wrong choice
Four cases, and they are real rather than rhetorical. If one of these is you, the page above is more useful to you than the one below.
AltoRank does this now, with one difference: the rule is yours. Turn on automatic publishing and each draft is emailed to you and ships after a 24-hour hold unless you hold it, after the same sourcing and audit checks a click runs, recorded under the person who set the rule. What it will not do is publish for an agent: the MCP server exposes no publish tool. If you want a publish nobody is accountable for, buy one of the tools below.
The exchange exists and every placement is human-approved, but it is small because we are early. A network with more counterparties in it is worth more than a better-designed one with fewer. Read the review pages of the tools that run one before deciding what that is worth.
We do not have them yet, which is why /success-stories says so instead of showing a logo wall. If proof from named customers is your gate, that is a fair gate and we currently fail it.
That is a different product. AltoRank does content and AI-search visibility properly and nothing else. rankingCoach and the broader suites cover the local bundle.
What AltoRank does that none of them do
Every draft lands with a fact-check verdict attached. Approve it by hand, or let the rule you set ship it after a hold you can veto; either way the approval is recorded under a name, and the gate is in the publish path itself, which is the only version of that promise that survives an agent driving the product.
AGPL-3.0 at https://github.com/AltoRank/altorank, including the scoring. With a closed tool, a disagreement about why an article scored what it did is a matter of vendor faith.
Bring your own API keys and run it on your own infrastructure at €0, with no feature gates between the free and paid paths. The managed plans exist because most people do not want to run infrastructure, not because self-hosting is crippled.
Built for a roster from the start, rather than a per-site subscription with a volume discount bolted on.
WordPress, Shopify, Magento, WooCommerce, Webflow, Ghost, Framer, Wix, Notion, HubSpot and a generic webhook, with Git for static sites shipping next. Each one is documented.

Common questions
What are the best AltoRank alternatives?
The twelve tools on this page are the ones people genuinely evaluate against us: Outrank, Distribb, BabyLoveGrowth, RankPill, SEOForge, rankingCoach, Search Atlas, contentbird, RankYak, Shopify Magic, Describely and SEOWind. Which one is right depends almost entirely on one question: do you want to keep the decision to publish? If not, several of them are a better fit than AltoRank and we say which on each page.
Why would I leave AltoRank?
Three honest reasons: you want unattended publishing, you want a link network that already has scale, or you want named customer case studies before committing. We fail all three today and there is a section above that says so plainly.
Is there a free AltoRank alternative?
AltoRank is itself the free option in this category: it is AGPL-3.0 and self-hosting is complete and costs nothing beyond your own API keys. Among the tools on this page, none is open source and none offers self-hosting, so "free" elsewhere means a trial or a limited tier rather than the software.
How does AltoRank pricing compare?
Self-hosted is €0. The managed plans are on the pricing page and include model and data costs. Every tool on this page is priced differently and several are cheaper than us at the entry tier, so rather than quote a range here, each head-to-head carries that tool's own figure with the date it was read. Prices in this category move monthly; the date on the page is the one to trust.
Who is behind AltoRank?
AltoRank is built and operated by SUPALABS SRL (VAT 04596950248), a company in Italy. GDPR applies to us as a matter of establishment, not only because we sell into the EU.
Check your own domain before you pick anything
This page argues about tools. The more useful question is the state of your site, so test your domain against the nine signals AI assistants read. It costs nothing and it is the same check the product runs on every site you add.
Nine checks on the homepage, robots.txt, sitemap.xml and llms.txt. No account, no email gate, and a link you can share. The scoring is in the open-source code, so it can be read rather than trusted.
Be the site the assistant names.
Add a domain and the first draft is written while you watch. Every publish is your decision, a click on the draft or a rule you set and can hold, and you can read the source or self-host it free.
